In Cuba, I loved experiencing multiple cultural layers of music, art and food that blended
Spanish, African, and indigenous influences. The unique cultural landscape was a fusion
of vibrant history, and warm hospitality. The artists and others I met left a
deep impression to me. The benefit of working with Cuban artists pushes the boundaries
of what’s possible and stimulated my artistic imagination. It allowed me to learn,
experiment, collaborate, and create.

In both 2018 and 2019, I was fortunate to visit Cuba, see the work of many artists, and experience Havana and Matanzas. This has helped to build my perspective as an artist. It has permitted me to see the world from a different perspective. Each time I am enveloped in a new environment, my views and understanding of my life and place in my community are altered and become enriched.

This photo features a Cuban man with his 115-year-old camera, which I took on my first trip to Cuba in 2015. What stands out about him is his love for the camera; he was one of the happiest people I encountered. He brought joy to everyone in the park, located across from the Telegrafo Hotel.'situated on Paseo del Prado.
